In our industry a vast majority of the jobs we do involve health and safety risks, which is why we do everything we can to make sure that our workers stay safe. Every year OSHA publishes a list of the top 10 most commonly cited safety violations, and strangely they don’t seem to change much. The 2016 list can be found here on OSHA’s website.
Several of the top violations are safety hazards we experience on our job sites, such as working with respiratory protection, ladders, and fall protection. Seeing this list and the numbers associated with it is eye opening because you realize how frequently people are not doing all that they can to protect their employees. It also serves as a reminder that we have to stay vigilant about our safety training and enforcement.
Safety+Health magazine publishes an article with the list in chart form each year so that people can review the list and use it to make sure they are not one of the many companies violating these safety standards. It’s a great resource and their website is packed with a bunch of great workplace safety tips and solutions. I highly recommend you check out their violation list article and website here.
It’s important that we all do our best to keep our workplaces safe for our hard working employees. These types of resources just help make our job easier and keep safety at the forefront of our minds!
